You connect a scan tool, identify the vehicle, read every diagnostic trouble code, and view live data without a problem. Then you press Clear Codes or start an actuator test and the tool refuses. That pattern often points to a secure gateway rather than a bad cable or failed control module.<\/p>\n

A secure gateway module<\/strong>, commonly shortened to SGW, helps protect a modern vehicle’s internal networks from unauthorized commands. It acts like a controlled door between the diagnostic connector and sensitive electronic systems. Basic read-only information may remain available, while commands that change vehicle state require an approved tool, an authenticated technician, and an internet connection.<\/p>\n
